When I first heard this story I thought it was a pretty interesting description of the dating world and how people are often looking for people who conflict with themselves. Note the first exchange our heroine has on her date:

Someday I want to say “Hey everybody! Listen up!” and have everyone in a 50-foot radius gather around me, just like Dudley does while handing out the bike-shop fliers. It’s one of the ways I wish life were more like television.

LIMBO (3 hours) - Here is my review of the game up to what I finished in September:

The order in which I play games is sometimes a little unnecessarily complicated. I’m often balancing many different variables when determining the next game to play. This time it was the fact that I wanted to listen to the LIMBO soundtrack. I’d obtained it as part of the Humble Bundle that gave me the game and because soundtracks can sometimes spoil plot elements, I didn’t want to listen to it until I’d played the game. The rest of this review will contain spoilers. The game is about 3 years old now, but if you want to play this game, go play it before you read anything about it.

“Oh, you’re getting married? I guess your sex life is over” HYUK HYUK HYUK HYUK. It’s hilarious. Oh, wait, no it’s a hackneyed joke that’s more or less run its course. First of all, it doesn’t make sense for the segment of the population that waits for marriage for sex. Their sex life is just beginning. Second, it’s not really true. A marriage is just like any other relationship - it’s easy to take for granted, but it needs work to be maintained, much less to grow. That means satisfying each other’s needs: mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and sexual. Given that I had a daughter, it should not be a surprise to anyone (although I know you’d prefer not to have it forefront in your mind), that Danielle and I have sex. And Scarlett was born after we were married so … yeah. That’s why I was pretty annoyed by the last paragraph of what was otherwise a pretty neat article about someone’s experience being in an open marriage and how it’s not the evil thing most people assume it is:

I felt just as incredulous as that guy. Still, even the most obvious things, like zippers, have to come from someone’s brain. I didn’t think about it again for years. Until this June when Boing Boing, Ars, and NPR covered the story that a film maker is suing the copyright holders. He just made a whole documentary about Happy Birthday and so he has a pretty good handle on exactly where it came from. Turns out he believes it should not be in copyright. So he’s suing Time Warner for collecting copyright fees on something it shouldn’t hold the copyright on. Supposedly it makes Time-Warner $2 million a year so they could end up with a HUGE bill if the film maker can turn it into a class action lawsuit. However, considering how much money Time-Warner would be liable for, you can be certain they’ll bring their best lawyers to play. It should be a pretty interesting fight.

Lots of technologist have been suggesting that the entertainment industry should view illicit Internet sources of their products as indicative of unmet demand. Netflix is doing just that.

Senior executives from Netflix have explained their method for choosing which programs to license for the service: they buy the rights to the most-pirated shows in each territory, because that’s where the demand is.

Once again we made a choice to go with a new guiding principle in our governance. This time it was Meritocracy. By rewarding those who do the best work, our citizens become happier.

It’s once again time for my latest Photojojo post. For those of you who haven’t been following my blog for a long time, Photojojo is a digital time capsule service. Every two weeks they send me an email that has my most interesting photos posted to flickr from one year ago.

A break from the Scarlett photos as all the photos in this photo time capsule are from Baltimore Comic-Con. As I mentioned before, I’m sad I couldn’t go this year, but I did get to go to the pretty awesome Color Run in Brooklyn. Perhaps those photos will make it next year!
