For the first time in a few years, my mom was going to be in town for Mother’s Day. We didn’t have a ton of events to attend or anything, so I asked her what she would like for dinner if she could have anything. She said she wanted prime rib, so I figured it was the perfect time for me to try out a prime rib roast on one of my BBQs. Meathead has lots of tips for eliminating most of the hassle of making a prime rib roast. First of all, remove the ribs - they only serve to block heat and keep the roast from cooking evenly. Second, use twine to make it into a cylinder so it cooks evenly from the outside to the inside.
I came across this in Target during Christmas time. Now, I am not a fan of the concept of the Elf on the Shelf and I’ve heard quite a few anecdotes of kids becoming freaked out - like the girl who called 911 because it fell and she didn’t want to touch it because kids are told that if they touch it they won’t get any presents. But between companies looking for a cash grab and those Jewish families who want to celebrate not-Christmas (like the ones where I went to high school that had Hanukkah Bushes (Christmas Trees with blue lights) and Hanukkah outside decorations), I guess this was inevitable.

This year was Scarlett’s second Halloween, but the first one where she had some kind of a clue about what was going on. The previous year we’d dressed her up as Toad, but other than the giant head-piece, I don’t think it was too different from any other day in her life. This time around, although she didn’t really see a point in collecting the candy because she doesn’t eat it - she did present her basket to each person giving out candy.

I wanted to wish a Merry Christmas to my readers, however many (or few) of you there are.
I hope this is a time of happiness and family fun for you. And, if you’re Christian, I hope this can also be a time of reflection for you upon the sacrifices Jesus made for you so that you don’t have to go to hell.
For those of who are non-Christians - I hope you can take this time to spend with your families and friends and be happy.
For Christian readers, take time today out of the pagan rituals of trees with lights and presents by a large, fat man. Take time to remember that Christmas is about the Creator of the Earth incarnating and submitting himself to a human life so that we would no longer have to spend eternity in Hell. Sure, we may not understand the metaphysics involved and why he couldn’t just pardon us with all of the coming down and all, but since He DID go through so much, take time to remember and be grateful.
Happy Thanksgiving! Take time to Give Thanks (thanksgiving) for everything you’ve been blessed to have. No matter how things are going for you, others have it worse. Case in point, be thankful for the soldiers fighting abroad. Whatever you may think about the war, those poor men and women cannot be with their families this Thanksgiving. Instead they are in some hell-hole fighting to help people who don’t even want them there.
A big Thank You to all those who have protected us over the past 200+ years. Here are two wonderful veterans who were key to the success in World War II. Click on the pictures to see a short summary of their stories.
The timing of this holiday is perfect. Coming near the end of the year, there are basically 11 months upon which to look back on. As my wife reminded me last weekend, a lot have happened this year. As a matter of fact, I think this has been the most eventful year of my life. Here are the things I have to be thankful for this year:
May: We both graduated from Cornell with excellent grades; I had two job offers and selected one in the last week of school.
I want to wish all of my readers a very happy Valentine’s Day. If you do not have a significant other this holiday, do not feel sad as you see all the couples about. If Valentine’s Day is about love, it need not be about love between lovers. Share your love with your parents, siblings, and friends. Let them know that you care about them (in whatever way is appropriate for the relationship q;o] ) and enjoy it.
