How did things go?
Before heading to Archive 404, Jaedana wanted to go visit the temple of the deity she worships: Zon-Sheylin. The temple was painted in a rainbow color on the outside and experimental jazz was playing inside. A Pahtra accolyte, dressed as an anime character (with fake human ears on a head band) welcomed her in and invited her to do sacred coloring and then sacred paintball to center herself.
While she was at the temple, Vorza and Nitpick searched the Infosphere for information about the mechanizers. They learned about how they forcibly “upgrade” people to get them ready for the singularity. When Jaedana returned and helped them learn even more about the group, they realized they thought their god had commanded them to shoot into the parade and kill the trio.
After that they went to Central Circuit to visit the Archives. Hesop gave them badges that lit up green and would allow them access into the archives. Shortly after entering the archives, their badges turned red and the virtual assistant running the Archives turned on the defense mechanisms and summoned 2 hardlight dragonettes to help fight off the trespassers. Jaedana and Vorza focused on battling and drawing fire from the defenses. Nitpick was almost knocked out in the first round of battle, but he scrambled up to where the hardlight projector for the VI was located. There he focused on using his computer skills to shut off the defenses. Once he succeeded they were able to get the VI’s assistance in locating the artifact.
When they opened up the box, it was empty! Alarms sounded and they were arrested for stealing the artifact. They spent most of the next week until trial healing up.
The trial involved the Prime-Facilitator making up evidence or showing actual team actions in the worst possible light. The trio objected and pointed out when things were obviously fabricated. They also presented their own evidence and, in the end, accused the Prime-Facilitator of trying to frame them. They were declared innocent and able to go free.
Then they were contacted by Z who asked them to come to the Ice Wells. However, the cyberwings he was using to talk to them were taken over by the Prime-Facilitator, who attacked them. After the battle, they resolved to head to the ice caves.
How is the mystery solving is going?
Just about done!
GM Thoughts
I knew why Jaedana’s player chose zon-Sheylin as their god and so I had a fun time pairing that with the description in the Player Core. The trip to the temple was something they wanted to do the previous session, but I forgot in all the chaos. I really enjoyed the details on the Pahtra (it made my wife laugh when I recounted it to her).
I had been waiting for the trial for a long time. I had resolved almost from the beginning that I would make references to the trial scene from Chrono Trigger because I knew my brother would appreciate it. In a lot of ways, the protagonist(s) is on trial for the same reason in each game.
I have enjoyed running this adventure and I can’t wait to see what the players think when we get to the end tomorrow!
