Since we choose a new character on 8 Jan, I chose to have this post cover my remaining days as Severin Mortis.

Story

Day 05

My master the high mage directs me to prepare the spell for the Overlord. He explains that the Soul Crystal was imbued with power by devouring souls when the Dark Overlord activated it. Now we will reverse the operation and give that power to the Dark Lord. My master is perhaps a bit nastier to me than usual because I betrayed him in front of the Dark Lord. I assume he has not tried to kill me because we are both necessary for the spell.

He shoves an ancient Tome into my hands and I familiarize myself with the spell. As I do so, I grasp the general principles, although some of the nuances are beyond my grasp.

I then check for any magical interference and reroute the energy flow. I reroute most of the energy, but I am do not have the powers of the high mage. Some interference remains.

I then memorize the chants and gestures. I commit most of the gestures to memory. I will need to focus when we do the actual spell soon.

Day 06

Before I can start the ritual, the enemy has arrived and begun their attack. My Master yells at me to complete the ritual without distraction. Despite the noises below, I concentrate with all my might and the magic flows out of me and mixes with the other forces. The powers within the crystal are ready to burst.

I begin the gestures for the ritual. Despite my earlier worries, my movements are flawless, imbuing the spell with stability. The Soul Crystal increases in power.

As I recite the incantation, I stumble on the words as I hear a crashing noise below. The spell lashes out at me. (-1 HP)

I refocus my mind and mental energy. (nat 20!!) My focus becomes unbreakable and the Soul Crystal Power increases again.

My master shouts that he still has more to do for the battle. He commands me to take my place in the hallway and protect the chamber.

Day 07

Soon after taking my spot, a barrage of arrows are shot at me. I move slightly too slowly and am grazed by one of the arrows. (-1 HP)

As the battle breaks out I see some wounded allies. I can help a goblin or loot an ally. I decided to try and help the goblin get free of some rubble. I free him and he stays by my side during the battle.

The arrows stop flying and I decide to try and get into a better position for the battle. I have spent too much time reading spells and expose my flank.

Time will tell what happens to me and whether the Dark Overlord will be successful.
