Souls of Saraku: Days 01-03

- 3 minutes read - 475 wordsLast year I backed the Kickstarter for the Quest Calendar by Sundial Games. This year is called Souls of Saraku. It’s a Solo TTRPG played as a daily calendar. This year the player chooses to play as a minion for a Dark Overlord (my first year, so I don’t know if it’s always like this). I’ll be blogging about it here as I do with all my TTRPG campaigns. The first 3 weeks of the calendar are a tutorial that allow the player to play with 3 of the minions so that the player is making an informed choice. For week 1 I chose to go with Severin Mortis, a Human Deathweaver.
This might be obvious, but the story sections will contain spoilers. I’m not copying the text (that would be a copyright violation), but I am talking about the general plot and my choices. Only read the story if you’ve already done that day’s calendar entry and/or don’t care about spoilers.
Story
Day 1
I serve an evil, dark lord. The high mage who is my master received an encrypted message by raven and commanded me to decrypt it. I decide to use a chanting spell to decrypt the message. I successfully am precise in my spellcasting. I feel myself gain an increase to my spell effectiveness.
Day 2
As my master has me being to collect the ingredients, draw the ritualistic circle, and memorize the chant, I find some Wolfsbane that I pocket. The master will not miss it. After doing this, I join the master in the spell-casting. I synchronize with my master and the magic responds. We see a vast enemy army. My spell effectiveness increases again to 2.
The army of light has arrived with more forces than we have defending the Dark Citadel. Their Champions have arrived and even the Overlord may struggle against them.
Day 3
My master and I go to deliver the message to the Overlord. He is disgusted by the way the Mage tries to couch what he has seen and begins to force-choke him (meta: think Darth Vader with Admirals that piss him off). He asks me what I saw.
I am scared by what I see happening to my master and my words fail. The Dark Lord roars at me and dark energy attacks me. (I lose 2 HP)
I take this opportunity to try and take my master’s place. I tell the Overlord what I saw. Then my pride gets the better of me and I try to offer advice. This angers him and he force-chokes me before slamming me on the ground. (I lose another 1 HP)
The Dark Lord is not scared. He tells my master to prepare the Soul Crystal so that he can take on this army.
