Dice Advent Calendar 2025 Days 08 and 09

- 2 minutes read - 365 wordsYesterday was a very busy day for me, so today is the first post for 2025 in which I am writing about more than one day’s die in the same post.
Day 08

Box on Day 08
Monday’s die was a return to the bloody metal die. This time we had a d4.

Bloody d4
I previously mentioned that I love the heft of this metal set. It feels substantial in your hand. One thing I didn’t mention on day 03 is that this set is VERY sharp. It’s a of-repeated stanza that the d4 is the die you would hate to step on. I think with this one you could legit end up drawing blood.

Day 09

Box on Day 09
The last two days we bounced back and forth between the metal and charcoal sets. So it was a surprise to see today’s chonky d20.

chonky d20 on the 20 and slightly more grey side
Not only is it not from either of the main sets, but it feels ridiculously light compared to the d4. One of the things you learn somewhere between 4th grade and somewhere in Middle School is the difference between mass, volume, and density. Our brains see the chonky as way larger than the d4. It should weigh more (or at least some similar amount). But after handling the d4 today, the d20 almost feels like it could float away!

the purple side of the d20
This chonky may not be from either set, but it almost feels like a long-lost cousin. There are greys and purples just like the charcoal set. But rather than evoking charcoal, the pattern makes me think of a mist flowing through the purple skies of a feywild-like realm.
It’s quite a beautiful d20 and I could see it being a showpiece - one that I make sure to use if I’m rolling in front of the screen.
As we get close to the midway point (this Friday), I’m getting more and more excited about the dice within this dice Advent calendar. I’m glad I ordered it as I’m having fun opening the doors each day.
