TTRPG Kickstarters May 2025 Update

- 4 minutes read - 774 wordsBack in October I made a post about the TTRPG kickstarters I’d backed. Here’s an update:
Backed in 2025
-
Humblewood: Beyond the Canopy by Hit Point Press - Part 2 of the Humblewood story. My kids are very excited that this kickstarter is due to be fulfilled this year (for Digital items). While I’m glad we don’t have to wait until next year to play and while it means that maybe the USA tariff issues will be done by then, the fact that digital delivery is 6+ months after digital kept me from ordering the whole physical item she-bang.
-
Monster Vault 2: Deadly Creatures for 5E D&D and ToV By Kobold Press - Even more monsters for Tales of the Valiant! The first Monster Vault was more of a ToV-ing of D&D’s SRD. This book is Kobold Press getting all creative on us. Also has great new mechanics for harvesting monster parts and other interesting mechanics for making monster encounters more interesting.
-
Legendary Monsters: Vicious and Valiant - Already fulfilled! I wanted to support a 3rd party ToV creator to let them know that Pathfinder and D&D aren’t the only systems work making 3rd party content for. It was a neat bestiary of Asian and Latin American lore and legend inspired monsters.
Previously Backed and Delivered
- Obojima Tales From The Tall Grass: A 5E Campaign Setting by 1985 Games. I’m hoping to maybe be able to play with my brothers later this year. Need to convince Dan that TTRPGs are fun first, though. Also, it was great that we got a free license to the game on Alchemy so it’ll be easy for me to play online.
Still to be Delivered
-
Blood & Glory - Sourcebook & Adventures! by Hive Mind Games - this was the second even TTRPG campaign I backed. It was supposed to deliver in Oct 2023. The team is small, but has kept up communications. If there’s one campaign that is the most likely to fail, it’s this one. But I still have faith.
-
80’s Adventures: 5e Supplement & Adventure Modules for DnD by Dice Dungeons - Currently in play testing phase. I have seen 2 of the adventures and the quality is amazing! I can’t wait until the full product is out later this year.
-
Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere RPG by Dragonsteel - The only bummer so far is that if the tariffs remain as-is, it’s going to delay the delivery of the physical materials because it would bankrupt the company. Otherwise it seems to be on schedule.
-
Monster Trainer’s Handbook: 5e Campaign Supplement & Setting by Dungeon in a Box - some playtest materials were released and we did a stadium battle. The twins are very excited for the full materials to come out.
-
The All New Gobber’s Guide to Hearth and Home by Unlimited Realms Ltd (haha unlimited limited…..) - I haven’t heard much from this one recently. The creators have been having a lot of real life issues (like family medical issues). Like Blood & Glory I think this one is the 2nd most likely to fail.
-
Faster, Purple Worm! Everybody Dies, Vol. 1 by Beadle & Grimm’s Pandemonium Warehouse - The digital version has already been delivered. I’ve looked it over and it’s SO well done. I can’t wait to play with some folks sometime soon (like within weeks, I think).
-
Enter The Labyrinth: 5E TOV Expansion and Adventure Path by Kobold Press - This expands the Kobold Press lore beyond Midgard and I am SO ready to incorporate it into our family game. I’m also hoping that the GM in the ToV game I’m playing with some other adults I met on the Kobold Press Discord got this and that we can incorporate it into our game before my bard needs to pick a subclass. I’d like the ability to have a few more choices. That said, it would also depend on Kobold Press having the Foundry VTT module ready at the same time. Foundry doesn’t seem to be their primary VTT, so I don’t know how much of a delay to expect.
Future?
As I mentioned in my October update, I already have tons of adventures to run, in addition to homebrew. I’m not planning on doing too many more Kickstarters this year. I will back the Tales of the Valiant Players Guide 2 and maybe their Midgard Northlands Tales of the Valiant Update. Beyond that, I think I’ll be focused on finishing up my Dungeon in a Box subscription (final box arrives next month, but we’re about 3 boxes behind) and continuing my Tales of Tales of the Valiant campaign with the kids.
