Humblewood: the Loper Recap
By EricMesa
- 4 minutes read - 711 wordsThe adventurers are offered Bastions. Minla and Iris take up the offer and tree shapers are sent to create the bastions. Minla chooses to start off with a bedroom, kitchen, garden, and a library. Iris chooses to have a bedroom, kitchen, smithy, and armory. She also named it The Spiked Defenders.
The session starts off in Minla’s very cramped bastion kitchen. A strig in the employ of the Council delivers a letter to Minla explaining the Council’s need for the party to explore Hamlin’s rumor of The Loper because they are afraid of ignoring rumors after what happened with the fire elemental.
Before leaving, Minla gives her bastion’s garden employees the command to harvest Herbs. Iris commands her smithy employees to make chainmail. The three adventurers set off towards Reya’s Watch.
Two days later they arrive at the camp. They climb the main tree which they discover is the Huntin Lodge. There they talk to Gil Hopper to learn they should speak with Frond over in Frond’s Fineries. They talk to Frond about finding Hamlin and Frond suggests they ask the militia for help.
The party goes to militia and speak with Bernice. She wants Lenny, a young luma, to join them as part of his training. He is afraid at first and doesn’t want to go, but is convinced when he finds out they are the Heroes of Alderheart.
It’s getting late so the party sleeps overnight in the quarters. Gibus is sound asleep, but Iris and Minla are awoken by a luma going through people’s things. Although Iris tries to speak in a loud whisper, Minla yells the alarm and the luma is arrested.
The following day Lenny leads the adventurers into the woods. In the first hour of travel they don’t have any issues. In the second hour of travel they are attacked by a shambling mound. Iris ends up knocked unconscious. After the fight, Iris is healed and the party continues for another hour without any issues. In the fourth hour of travel they are ambushed by some forest prowlers. During this attack Gibus is knocked unconscious. He is revived during the fight.
Finally, the party arrives at Hamlin’s house. As they ascend, Gibus trips over Hamlin’s alarms. (Lenny apologizes for not warning him). They meet Hamlin and convince him of heir sincerity by presenting the letter from the Council. Hamlin tells his tale of the prowler. He wants to leave right away, but the party, having been beaten up during the fights and exhausted from their magic usage, convinces him to wait until morning.
The next day Lenny asks to stay behind because he’s afraid after the combat he was witness to the day before. The party soon finds The Loper. They get strange images beamed into their minds by the Loper’s telepathic powers. Iris is able to tell that the Loper has a Thorn of Kren stuck in its head, causing it to act so viciously. Iris and Gibus decide they will attempt to pull the thorn out. Gibus keeps getting bucked off, but Iris is able to stay on long enough to pull it out. Minla decides to attack The Loper because she is afraid of what will happen if the party tries to touch the thorn. Eventually Iris pulls the thron out, but it gets stuck on her hand. Because of this she cannot ride it back to the main area. The party convinces Hamlin not to attack the creature. She goes back to Hamlin’s house to look after Lenny.
When everyone else gets back to the main areas, the hunters are frightened, but the party is able to convince them not to attach. Another party has a cleric among them, the cleric travels to Hamlin’s house to magically remove the thorn from Iris. The team decides to take the thorn to the Avium. Hamlin wants to go to Alderheart and promises to pay 200GP to be escorted there. The party uses their teleportation charm to go to the Avium. They meet Selene, who they helped at the Golden Gala. Selene takes the thorn to the Dean. She is excited since she has a fascination with Kren.
The adventure ends when the team escorts Hamlin, gets paid, and goes back to their bastions.
