Advent 2024 Dice Days 05-08

I got extremely busy with both work and my personal life, so I fell behind a bit. I also decided to drop Advent of Code from these posts (and from my life) as I can’t fit it in with the other things I’m busy with this month.
Day 05

Day 5 brought us a die from a different set - neither from the shiny glitter set, nor the Elsa-blue set. It made me start to wonder just how different the dice in this advent calendar would be; especially after the Zelda d4. I do like that this d12 is also shiny. It’s a nice d12 for a Christmas game or a druid.
Day 06

After I spent a day wondering if there was a theme to the calendar, day 6 was a return to the Elsa-blue set with this beautiful d100. Well, I think technically d100s are the dice that are almost perfect spheres, but those are pretty rare. This is, as you can see from the revealed faces, one of those dice that goes by 10s. Combined with a d10 you basically have both digits for a 100-sided roll. I also love the quality of the numbers on this die.
Day 07

It’s very hard to tell with day 7’s d20, but this die has an interesting metallic sheen to it. You can only see it in bright light and it seems to shift around. It’s quite fascinating in contrast with the more explicit glitter of the d8 I got on Day 02 or the upcoming d4 from day 8. We’re approaching a number of variations in full dice sets that cannot all be contained in one advent calendar unless future days are going to start coming with multiple dice inside. Perhaps this one is meant to go together with day 5’s green to make a Christmas-y set? Or maybe I’m overthinking things and a certain number of the days contain various excess dice from Dice Envy’s orders this year. The Advent Calendar would certainly be a good way to clear inventory while marketing a diserable product (vs putting it on sale).
Day 08

Today’s day 8 die returns to the glittery dice set that photograph as a yellow-green (at least to my eyes). In person they seem to contain way more yellow than they do when photographed. Also, in looking at this die up close for the umpteenth time while re-reading the draft for this post, it looks to me like a gelatinous d4. What a devious thing for a DM to construct…I’m getting ideas for future campaigns…
I’m enjoying all the emerging sets of dice and every day I look forward to opening the next panel together with Sam. Especially since I decided to stop working on Advent of Code (and therefore don’t have pressure to make a post with both the code and the die) I’ll probably get these posted in a more timely manner for the next couple weeks. When we get REALLY close to Christmas I might get busy again because I’ll be spending time with the family, so I might need to save the last 3-5 dice for a blog post after the holidays. I’ll see if I can get some content pre-written for that week, but I’ll have to set up a cron job or something to make the posts so that I don’t have to worry about making it to the computer to hit the Hugo buld script.
